So, what’s your book about?

the closer it gets to the publication date of my book (November), the more often do I get the question, ‘What’s your book about?’
That’s natural. Except that I freeze and ramble on. Something like, ‘Oh, it’s hard to describe in one sentence. It’s basically about a woman who’s survived the Bosnian genocide.’
This is when the eyes of the person sitting/standing across from me lose focus and I can see that they’d rather be anywhere but listen to an awful account of murder and rape.
While the above is not wrong, it IS about the Bosnian genocide, but it is so much more than that. It is about loss and grief, but also about love and second chances, about the healing nature of plants and flowers, about commitment, loyalty and memories, about embracing the past and not fighting it.
But how do I say this in one coherent sentence before I lose my interlocutor?

I recenlty asked my Instagram community to help me. I gave them three choices to choose from:

Option 1:

It’s a story about a survivor who goes back to Bosnia to find her family’s remains and discovers a secret that reshapes her understanding of happiness and healing. 

Option 2:

It’s about a woman who returns to Bosnia to confront the grief she locked away and uncovers a family secret that changes everything she thought she knew.

Option 3:

It follows Selma, who survived genocide, built a perfect life in Australia, and must return home when the past she buried refuses to stay buried.

The majority opted for a combination of 2 and 3. What do you think?
